Phil Ivey's WSOP just keeps on getting better with win number two in the bank before the main event has even started.
Ivey took out WSOP event 25 - a $2,500 buy-in Omaha Hi-lo 7 card stud tournament. He takes home just over $220,000 for his troubles, and importantly, another coveted WSOP gold bracelet...making number 2 for WSOP 40 and number 7 for all-time WSOP appearances. Two weeks ago Ivey took out the $2500 buy in deuce to seven no limit lowball event.
Almost 400 entrants battled out event 25, with second place going to Ming Lee.
Ivey's 7th WSOP bracelet has turned his attention to climbing the all-time bracelet winners ladder. Currently only 5 players have won more WSOP gold bracelets, including current leader Phil Helmuth with 11.
Commenting on the importance of making it to the top of the list, Ivey volunteered,
"Well, before last year I pretty (much) skipped a couple of years at the World Series," he said. "I didn't play in as many tournaments as I used to because I figured, it's doesn't really make much difference, you know."
"But then, as I started getting older I started to realize...winning bracelets, it does matter. Just having the chance to put myself in poker history and I know I have the chance to win and be the all-time bracelet leader if I can continue at this pace."
But Ivey's campaign to take a slice of poker history is still leaving him some time to play at sponsor website Full Tilt. According to the twitter of poker pro Erik Seidel, Ivey managed a six figure win on Full Tilt over the weekend, between bracelet wins!
