Sportingbet.com, well known online sportsbook operator and sports commentator has signed a three year sponsorship deal with World Series of Snooker.
Under the new deal, Sportingbet.com will get full naming rights to the snooker championship series, which will for the next three year be called the Sportingbet.com World Series of Snooker.
John Higgins, series creator and executive director said of the new deal, "Like ourselves, they see the growth potential of this sport in Europe, and it is our intention to further develop our existing events -- bringing the total number of events staged in season 2009-10 to seven locations,".
Still in its infancy, having started only 2 years ago, the series will go up against the World Snooker Championship in the fight to be regarded as the premier snooker series.
The World Snooker Championship is also sponsored by an online gambling operator (Betfred) which should add some intensity to the competition between the two series.
Snooker is shaping as a favorite sport of gambling operators, with 888 plc also heavily involved in snooker marketing efforts.
