The Nova Scotia Gaming Corp has developed a new software that can block online gambling websites.
The corporation had the software developed following a 2006 study (commissioned by Nova Scotia Gaming Corp) that revealed significant online gambling activity of minors. The study claimed children gambled online almost three times as much as adults.
While many will doubt the extent of problem gambling online by minors claimed by the study, no one will refute that it is a problem and any measures introduced to prevent it are positive.
The launch of the new software, named BetStopper, will coincide with this week's 'We Love Our Children Expo' in Halifax. It is claimed to be the first software of its type in the world, and basically is installed by adults to prevent their children being able to access online gambling websites.
